Why Not???
* Travel somewhere new
* Have another girls weekend. It's amazing what a day or two away can do for your sanity and your soul! Only 2 months ago I had my first girls weekend away and LOVED it! It reconnects you with who you are aside from being a mother and a wife. Besides, absence does make the heart grow fonder.
* Do an anonymous act of kindness. Yes it's nice to be recognized for our good deeds, but it's even more fun to do something and not tell ~ like it's your own little secret.
* Take a class for something you've never tried before. Art, photography, cooking, anything! You just might like it.
These are just a few on my list. So far I have about 25 things and will continue to add to it. I don't know if I'll get everything checked off my list, but I will have fun trying!

Another Year Has Gone By
We’ve had many changes this year, I must say.
And for some more than others had to take it day by day.
But through all the trials we’ve received blessings it’s true!
Some we see now and others when our journey’s through.
Some have lost their jobs while others still struggle.
And hectic schedules can be difficult to juggle.
We put pressure on ourselves more than we use to.
That so many times when the night has come and our day is through,
We wonder what’s the point of it all?
And how in a world such as this can we feel so small?
The ones we loved most can betray our trust.
Within moments the life we’ve built will decay and rust.
So hard to move on, but move on we will!
And somehow when silent I feel peaceful when still.
Deep within I found my strength and my light.
For myself and my future I thought worth the fight.
Others may struggle with their health from time to time.
And thank goodness for medicine to heal us just fine!
I thank God for the challenges that we all face
For only in the midst of it all can we truly know God’s grace.
For He is my light, my beacon, my all!
And He and only He knows my life’s true call.
So here’s to a year that’s come and gone!
And here’s to the future and for some moving on!
For tomorrow looks bright and hopeful today.
Next year will be kind and undramatic I pray!

Holiday Cheer
Christmas has finally come and gone. I shouldn't say finally because it always seems to come sooner than you'd think. However, I feel like we have done just about everything possible to feel the spirit of Christmas this year. For the past month we have done the Christmas parties, gone to see The Forgotten Carols, went on the Polar Express, and saw the lights at Temple Square. If all of that combined won't get you in the Christmas mood I don't know what will!
Last weekend we had Christmas with Stella and Tristan's birth mothers. We had dinner at the Carroll's and enjoyed spending the evening visiting and watching the kids open too many presents. On Christmas Eve we made and decorated gingerbread cookies for Santa. The kids handled my cake decorating tools pretty well. Everything was a mess, but it was a lot of fun! Later we had dinner at my parents house and played games. We've started a tradition of Stella and Tristan buying and exchanging presents for one another. We think it will help them feel the joy of giving. They seemed to enjoy exchanging presents.
The kids were excited to see that Santa had eaten quite a few of their cookies and left a note. Even better was the load of presents dropped off under our tree. Stella got the fully loaded barbie house she has asked for and Tristan got an automatic nerf gun and Geo Trax airport. Not to mention a bunch of other stuff. After the presents were all opened we headed back over to my parents for breakfast and more gifts. Then over to the Duffin's to finish filling the rest of the back of the truck. Both of our parents go way overboard. I swear it looked like we were moving by how much stuff we brought home!
The day after Christmas poor Bill had to work AGAIN and so the kids and I went sledding with my family. Aside from the minor injuries and freezing weather it was a great way to end our Christmas weekend!

BELIEVE
Tonight Bill and I surprised the kids by taking them on the Heber Creeper Polar Express. Tristan loves trains so we thought this would be right up his ally. Stella has had so many fun things going on this month between her dance recital, Princess on Ice, girls-night-out and such, that we thought it would be fun to do something special Tristan would particularly enjoy. When we pulled up to the train station they both had such a look of excitement!
As soon as we left the train station Ms. Clause came on our train and served her own recipe of chocolate chip cookies and hot cocoa. I even got the recipe from her! Afterwards we read The Polar Express story. Once we reached the North Pole Santa came on board. We were the last part of the train to meet him so we didn't get to see him until after we finished singing Christmas songs. Stella volunteered us to be part of the 12 Days of Christmas group.
Tristan was a little nervous at first when he saw Santa, but after I explained that he didn't have to sit on his lap he was OK. All the kids on board received the first gift of Christmas ~ a bell. The kids were so happy afterwards and had such a good time on the train. It was very worth the trip! We definitely believe in the spirit of Christmas!

Santa Clause is coming to town!
Saturday evening we went to my parents ward for their Christmas dinner. My dad is the bishop so we like to go and support him ~ especially if we know Santa is going to be there! We didn't make it to our ward's breakfast since we were gone for our anniversary and thought this would be a good way to avoid dragging the kids to the mall to see Santa. Anyway, when we got there we had a short program in the chapel and watched a video of the wise men following the star to find baby Jesus. It brought tears to my eyes to see how much Stella knew about the story of Jesus' birth. And when she saw Mary holding her new baby Stella said, "Jesus is so beautiful!" She is so right! He is beautiful. It makes me feel good to see the love she already has for Jesus and to see how much she is learning! I love her unquestioning faith! There is so much we can learn from children.
At dinner time Santa made his appearance and came around to greet the kids. Tristan wasn't quite sure about the strange looking guy, but he did shake his hand. When we went to line up to sit on Santa's lap Tristan refused to sit on his lap. We knew this would be his reaction. Stella was good and sat on his lap and told him what she wanted, but was pretty shy. Tristan wouldn't tell him what he wanted, but he did give him knuckles and got his little gift bag from Santa. He was pretty funny!
We cashed out on winning gifts too! My mom and I beat out the rest of the group on one of the quizzes. Granted I had a little help from the bishop on two of the answers, but he just confirmed what we were already thinking! I tried to let someone else win with the tie-breaker question. It was what is Bishop Robbins' first name. He goes by Steve, but his real name is Jon. When the guy guessed James I corrected him and won the prize. Stella also won one of the jars of candy that people had to guess how many pieces of M&M's were in the jar. She was pretty happy to walk away with that prize! I felt a little guilty taking prizes from a ward I don't even belong to, but what can you do!
"Such stuff as dreams are made on." William Shakespeare

This past December 1st marks mine and Bill's 10 year wedding anniversary! It has been an amazing decade full of joy, laughter, memories, and surprises. We have been so blessed in our marriage. We certainly don't have a perfect marriage (and anyone who says they do is a liar), but at the end of the day we are still happy to be with one another and love each other more now than ever before.
Tuesday we went out to dinner and brought the kids with us. There was nothing romantic about it, but I have to say as I watched the kids swarm around Bill on his side of the boothe, it occurred to me that this is what I dreamed about before I got married! I'm so grateful! I have a wonderful, loving husband and two beautiful children who we both adore. It doesn't get much better than this! (An extra Million might make things a little better!)
Every year we escape even if its just for a night and go somewhere. This year we went to the Armstrong Mansion uptown. We had been there once before and enjoyed it. Our room was really nice. It was definitely a step up from our room last year at the Homestead with the stuffed animals on the bed! We went to dinner before checking in and luckily beat the dinner rush. Then Saturday we finished up some Christmas shopping and went to a movie. It was a relaxing get-away and something we look forward to every year. Before we even got married we made a pact to make time with one another and celebrate our anniversary away from the kids. We have been fortunate to have family willingly watch our kids and have been able to do this every year!
So happy anniversary to my sweetheart! I love you Bill! Thanks for the past 10 years and I look forward to an eternity with you!!!

Thankful...
* I'm thankful for my wonderful, handsome, hard-working, loving husband of 10 years!
* I'm thankful for 2 beautiful, healthy, entertaining kids!
* I'm thankful for amazing family and friends! I don't know what I'd do without them!
* I'm thankful for my health. Nothing puts everything into perspective like a little "scare".
* I'm thankful for my job which allows me to work when convenient for me!
* I'm thankful for my home and the everyday comforts I enjoy.
* I'm thankful to live in this country and have the freedoms that so many other's have fought for us to have.
* And last, but certainly not least, I am thankful for my Savior.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and takes a moment to give thanks for the blessing, big and small, in our lives. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
"Thankful"
Some days we forget to look around us
Some days we can't see the joy that surrounds us
So caught up inside ourselves
We take when we should give
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And on this day we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for
Look beyond ourselves, there's so much sorrow
It's way too late to say, I'll cry tomorrow
Each of us must find our truth
We're so long overdue
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And every day we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for
Even with our differences
There is a place we're all connected
Each of us can find each others love
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And on this day we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us to be the change
And even though this world needs so much more
There's so much to be thankful for

Fit for a Princess
November 11th my mom, Stella and I went to Disney Princess on Ice. I bought tickets a few months ago and Stella has been looking forward to this so much! Anyone who knows anything about Stella know's that she is a little obsessed with princesses. The Monday before I told Stella that in only 2 days we'd be going to Princess on Ice and she said to me, "Mom, I am so excited I could freak out!" I laughed so hard when she said that! I love when she says things that catch me off guard like that.
Stella was all dressed up in her princess outfit when I got home for work and was ready to go. I have never seen so many cute little girls dressed up as princesses in my life. There are some pretty elaborate dress up clothes out there! Stella was captivated from the moment it started. She clapped and cheered so loud at the end when all of princesses came out in their wedding gown I couldn't believe it! I had never heard her cheer like that for anything! I just looked at my mom and laughed. She was so giddy on the way home she couldn't stop laughing. I love making memories like these!
Today we had Stella's dance recital. There were 4 different groups that performed including Stella's. It was so much fun to watch all of the little girls dressed up perform the dances they have been practicing for the past 3 months. Stella had only been in dance one other time when she was 3 so we decided to put her in with the more advanced group hoping it would push her a little, and she certainly kept up with the rest of them!
Thanks to Stella's G & G Duffin, Dellany and Tremayne, & Barbara and Dave for making the trip out to see her perform. She was excited to have you all there!

Trick or Treat!
This year we had a busy, but very fun Halloween! It started off with a bit of confusion since the clock in my bedroom was apparently a day off and automatically fell back an hour early for day light savings. Fortunately Bill wasn't late for work since he was planning on going in an hour early and leaving an hour early, but I was sure confused when I woke up and half my clocks were wrong. Once I realized I didn't have as much time as I thought I had, I hurried to get the kids and myself ready to visit family.
Next we headed out to Dellany and Tremaynes. We had a great time playing with lego's, talking, and starting our new band. The kids loved playing with their Rock Band instruments and the keyboard. They started their evening off with plenty of candy too.
Afterwards, we had our annual dinner with the Eichelbergers before facing the cold weather, begging candy off our neighbors. Melissa and I took the first loop around our street, while Bill and Bart took the second. The kids had a blast and we always love to see all the kids dressed up. I love Halloween! It is such a fun holiday that brings back lots of memories and makes you feel like a kid again. We ended the night by watching a Halloween movie on t.v. together. Tristan did finally get into his Thomas the Train costume and looked pretty dang cute I must say. Only a few weeks 'til Thanksgiving and a month and a half until Christmas. Can you even believe it?!

Vegas, baby!
This past weekend I joined my sister, mom and sister-in-law Mistee for a girls weekend in Las Vegas. This is my first weekend away from my kids with my girls. Ever. I was so excited and after a long week of taking care of my sick hubby and 2 (beautiful, healthy) kids, I was ready for a weekend away! We left early Friday morning and picked up Mistee on our way. We made a short stop in St. George for lunch and to visit with my cute grandparents. We finally arrived in Mesquite to a nice little condo my dad's friend graciously offered us to stay in. That evening we went to a yummy Mexican restaurant and watched a movie.
Saturday morning we left for Vegas! This was my first time ever seeing Vegas. I was a Vegas Virgin. Let me just say, Vegas is a very interesting place to say the least! Aside from the porn flickers, disgusting smoky casino's, the nearly pornographic billboards, buses that have nearly naked girls pole dancing, and the fashion disasters everywhere you look, it was a fun, imaginative place to visit! The hotels are amazing! Unfortunately we didn't get to see all of the hotels we wanted to, we did check almost everything off our list.
Bellagio water show. Check.
Wax museum. Check.
Coke store. Check.
M & M store. Check.
Meet Elvis. Check!!!
Dinner at a fancy restaurant. Check. Well, sort of.
After a long day of walking and blistering feet, we finally went to a restaurant we all decided on going to. After we got there we were told since we didn't have a reservation we would have to sit at one of the two tables located outside the restaurant, in the shopping center. Grrrrrr. We decided to make the best of it. If we couldn't have the ambiance we would still have a nice dinner and enjoy resting our feet for a while.
After dinner and a much needed break from walking we went the the Bellagio to see the water show and the awesome garden inside. We finished off with a little more shopping and headed home. We finally got back to the condo at 2:45 (Utah time). I completely crashed that night and slept better than I have in weeks. It was wonderful! Sunday we were off for another long drive home. It was a great weekend or as my mom said, "A darn good time!" I hope we can make it an annual thing. Thx to Em for organizing the weekend. We made some great memories in Sin City!

It's A Girl Thing
This past weekend I did the Walk for a Cure for breast cancer. I joined my sister and co-workers. It was packed and hopefully they raised some good money to further the progress for a cure. My grandma has had to fight this awful disease twice, both ending with a mastectomy. She is one of the strongest women I know and a great inspiration to me. It was only a year ago she was faced with this grueling diagnosis for the second time. I was proud to be one of hundreds walking that day, and I did so in my Grandma Olsen's honor. I have always feared that one day I will have to face "C" word. If that day does come I hope because of so many people's conviction to find a cure and the inspiration of other's will get me through. I hope to make this a tradition! It was cold, but a lot of fun.

3rd Times A Charm!
I am SO excited though and I'm grateful to have this chance again. I love adoption and everyone knows it's something I feel very passionate about. I hope it will be another great experience so we can finally have all our family here. If any of you reading this know or hear of anyone considering adoption, please pass our names along! We need all the help we can get.

And All That Jazz
This one's for you Dellany!
Today Miss Stella started dance with my friend Jennifer. Soccer was clearly not her thing for the time being, so we thought since she likes to shake her booty, why not try dance again. We did have her in ballet once, but I think she was too young and had too short of an attention span. Hopefully now that she is a little older and wiser she will enjoy it more and be excited to learn new moves. It is a combination of Jazz, Ballet, and Hip Hop. Jen prefers the parents not stay and watch since it can usually be a distraction to the kids so I didn't get to see what they actually did. However, Stella looked lovely in her leotard and was quite the poser for me when I asked to take a picture before she left! She's such a cutie!

Mom, Don't Cry Until I Get On The Bus
Where does the time go??? Today was Stella's first day of Kindergarten! Can you believe it?! I know I can't. Everyone knows I've been dreading this day and Stella must have picked up on that vibe. This morning as I was doing Stella's hair she says to me, "Mom, don't cry until after I get on the bus." I laughed at such insight from a 5 year old and I promised her I wouldn't cry, at least until she got on the bus. She was really excited to have a new teacher, new friends, and going to the big school.
I waited with her until the bus came and you better believe I followed that bus to her school to make sure she got off and found her teacher! She got off, showed the teachers aid her princess back-pack, hugged her cousin, hugged me again, then was off to her adventurous first day.
Everything went well aside from the fact that when I didn't see her get off at her stop I had to go searching for her on the bus. She was not paying attention to where she needed to get off at like we had talked about. Apparently the girls in the seat next to her were more interesting. I had another talk with her about why she needs to be watchful while she is on the bus. She wouldn't give me hardly information about her day other than they drew "lots of little, tiny A's!" and they learned about Humpty Dumpty.
Overall things went well, and I didn't cry. I will be following her on and off the bus for the next few days too. Bill tells me I need to let her go, but that's so much easier said than done when you've watched, loved, and cared for someone everyday for the past 5 years! Maybe someday it will be easier. We'll see....
Boys and their Toys
Saturday night Bill and Tristan had a boys night out and went to the Monster Truck Show at the Real arena. Tristan is OBSESSED with trucks and we figured this would be right up his ally. We only have one decent picture of Bill and T because he was so into the show that you couldn't talk to him let alone get a picture! He was excited the whole day when I was telling him where he was going later that night. He kept talking about the "big loud trucks". Bill said that he just sat on his lap the whole time and didn't hardly move. He just stared at the trucks and was so into it the whole time. He loved the 4-wheelers of course. When he got home he wouldn't tell me about his night out, but he was sure excited to tell Stella! Stella gave him a hug and kiss and was glad that he had fun with Dad. He already wants to go again!

Summer Fun

This month has been a busy, but fun one for our family. July started off with a camping trip at Fish Lake with Shaun & Mistee and Ron & Becky. It was rainy half of the time, but that seems to be a recurrent theme in our camping trips so far! We took the kids fishing at Gates Lake and caught almost 20 fish! It was definitely not a boring sport that day! Stella wasn't too into so she got some coloring done. Whatever keeps them happy!
We did the usual camping activities. Eat, 4-wheeling, camp fires, and such. On the
4th we got hit hard with a huge rain storm. We were originally planning on going to the Sevier Rodeo, but now we weren't quite sure. We decided to risk it and take a shot at missing the storm. Luckily for us it had cleared up before we got there. We found the softest rock on the mountain we could find and enjoyed watching the rodeo with the kids. Stella and Tristan were surprisingly into it the whole time. Stella has decided she wants to be a rodeo-princess when she grows up. She loved the cowgirls in the sparkly outfits. Tristan liked all the animals and the little truck that drove out during half-time (I guess is what it could be compared to). Aside from losing Makayla for 10 minutes we had a great time! The fireworks were awesome!! (Even though Stella asked a few minutes into them if we could go home)
We have tried to go swimming at the Kearns Rec Center weekly this summer. Stella and Tristan have such a blast going down the slide over and over! Stella has found a passion for swimming I think. We need to get her in some swim lessons we've decided. It's hard to get her out of the pool once we are there. Tristan likes it about every other time we go. He doesn't last as long as Stella, but still loves the slides.
We went to the museum up at the U of U. We went with our adoption playgroup. We took Tracks up to the U. Stella and Tristan had never been on Tracks before so they had a lot of fun. Tristan is obsessed with trains so I knew it would be something he would enjoy! We brought our lunches and had a picnic when we got there then walked through the museum for the next few hours. They got to see all kinds of gross frogs and stuff like that. I was beat by the end of that play date, but they had a lot of fun so that's all that mattered. Note to self, don't forget the umbrella stroller next time and don't wear heels!!
Finally, this past weekend we went to the cabin with the Duffin's. We went down Thursday and Bill's parents joined us later that night. We went swimming as soon as we got there. It was the perfect day for it. 100 degrees with no wind. Friday morning we went fishing at Gooseberry. We did pretty good! Stella reeled in all of the fish. Tristan was busy pretending to reel in fish on his new Cars fishing pole. We went 4-wheeling when we got back and when Jason and crew came up we went swimming again. This time the weather was not so great, but we had fun anyway. We got home later that night. It was a fun couple of days, but I have to say there is no place like home! After all of the busyness that went on that past week I was in need of some good down time!

Graduating Day
Their graduation took place at the Kearns Library. Stella's Grandma and Grandpa Duffin and Great Aunt Chris were all there to see her graduate. The kids all sang songs that they had learned and sang many times over the past year. They cracked me up when they all acted out the actions to the songs! Some really got into it! After the songs we watched a video Amy made of the kids throughout the year. I'm always amazed how much the kids have grown from seeing the beginning pictures to the end of the school year.
And at last, the kids were called one by one to accept their diploma's. The diploma's had Smarties attached to it since they are so smart. Everyone got a balloon, and Stella recieved some special gifts from Grandma and Grandpa Duffin. Afterwards we went to Artic Circle with the Eichelberger's for ice cream. Now we have a few months before she is in Kindergarten. Stella is very excited about moving up to the Elementary School. I wish I was a little more enthusiastic, but it's just another sign that my baby is growing up! I wish I could just freeze time, but I am glad she is growing into a sweet, thoughtful, caring little lady. So congratulations to the Class of 2022!
